Michael Johns endorses Rick Barber in AL-02 GOP primary, National Tea Party founder and leader pledges support for Rick Barber in Alabama, district 2
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

MONTGOMERY – In a statement released Monday morning, National Tea Party founder and leader Michael Johns endorsed Rick Barber in the GOP primary for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.

“Over this past year, our nation has been served by the commitment of many millions of Americans to the Tea Party movement, which is proving one of the most important political movements in American history.  From the beginning, Rick Barber has been an ally for defending the American Constitution, limited government, tax relief, and a strong America,” said Johns.  “I am proud to offer him my strongest endorsement, and I intend to work for his election.”

Michael Johns is an influential voice on the national political scene, especially regarding health care and foreign policy.  Johns was a speechwriter for George H. W. Bush, but his career in politics dates back to the Reagan Administration, during which he advocated for a more aggressive foreign policy in the Cold War battle against the Soviet Union.

Today, Johns serves as the chairman of the Patriot Caucus, a coalition of tea party activists & organizers who believe we have a duty to engage the movement in electoral political activism.

Johns also serves as a Heritage Foundation policy analyst.  His blog can be viewed at the following link.  http://michaeljohnsonfreedomandprosperity.blogspot.com/

“Rick Barber has all the qualifications necessary to bring better representation to Alabama’s Second Congressional District: Small business owner, Tea Party movement activist, and Marine Corps veteran.  He understands what needs to get done in Washington to get our nation back on an economic growth path, to protect our borders and win the War on Terror, and to strengthen our education and health care systems in sensible ways that empower citizens, not government,” adds Johns.  “The Tea Party movement needs him in Washington, and so does Alabama.”

“I’m honored to have earned Mr. Johns endorsement,” said Rick Barber.  “This will only inspire me to work harder in my mission to promote, protect and defend individual liberty and promote conservative principles of limited government.”

Rick Barber has also been endorsed by Erick Erickson of Redstate.com, Liberty First PAC, Iraq Vets for Congress PAC and Pamela Geller of the popular Atlas Shrugs blog.

Erick Erickson endorses Rick Barber, Top conservative blogger and founder of Redstate.com throws support behind Rick Barber in AL-02 GOP primary
Thursday, March 4th, 2010

MONTGOMERY – In a statement written Tuesday night, Erick Erickson, the founder and editor-in-chief of Redstate.com, endorsed Marine Corps veteran and small business owner Rick Barber in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.

With a daily readership of tens of thousands, Redstate.com is one of the largest and fastest growing political websites on the internet.  The site is said to be the most widely read right-of-center website on Capitol Hill, with a regular readership including House Minority Whip Eric Cantor and perennial conservative pundits like Rush Limbaugh.

Erickson himself is part of the “the best political team on television” on CNN.  He is a regular on Anderson Cooper 360, and he was ranked 65th in the Telegraph’s recent analysis of America’s 100 most influential conservatives.

In his statement yesterday, Erickson wrote, “Rick has the support of the grassroots in the district, which we are seeing more and more is going to make the difference in a close race.  It’s not that his opponent is the establishment person.  It’s that the grassroots trust and like Rick for who they know him to be and what they know he will do.  He’s the type of candidate everyone always says they want to run. Well, he is.  We should support him.”

For his part, Rick Barber is thrilled with the endorsement.

“I’ve been campaigning for a little less than seven weeks, and the support that I’ve received both inside and outside the district has been overwhelming,” admitted Barber.  “I’ve never run for office before, so having someone of Erick Erickson’s caliber endorse my candidacy is a boost of confidence that I can’t fully describe.  I’m honored by Mr. Erickson’s endorsement.  It’s only going to make me work harder in the months to come.”

Rick Barber has also been endorsed by Liberty First PAC, Iraq Vets for Congress PAC and Pamela Geller of the popular Atlas Shrugs blog.

Every American airman, seaman, soldier and marine takes an oath to protect and defend the Constitution.  All who serve honorably understand that oath and believe in America’s founding principles of limited government.  Their service is a testament to their sworn duty to protect the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

“We will follow Rick Barber’s campaign with great interest.  We will help him raise money, and we will support him in every way we can to ensure than he wins the Congressional seat in Alabama’s 2nd District. We need more conservative veterans like Rick Barber representing America’s interests and values in Washington” concluded Mahoney.

Read below about Pamela Geller according to Conservatism Today:

Pamela Geller had a fine career in the mainstream media before the attacks of 9/11 forced her to rethink her viewpoint. Now she authorsAtlas Shrugs, and (I just learned) has a local radio show here in Phoenix that I will be sure to check out. Her blog is full of high-quality, original content that you are unlikely to find elsewhere on your own. She mainly focuses on the War on Terror, and does so from her religious point of view. Still, she is a great source for information on the ongoing war, on foreign policy, and on Islamo-fascism. From time to time she focuses on other conservative concerns as well. I check in a couple times a week to see what’s new.

Liberty First PAC endorses Rick Barber, National Tea Party activists and bloggers throw their lot with Rick Barber in AL-2 race
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

MONTGOMERY – Rick Barber has something to celebrate this week.  On Sunday, he won the endorsement of his first national political action committee: Liberty First PAC.

Eric Odom, Ken Marrero and Steve Foley are the official committee members of Liberty First PAC.  Each have been vocal and influential advocates for the limited government, tea party movement in 2009.

According to the political action committee’s website, Liberty First PAC endorses “candidates who place liberty (the Constitution) first when casting a vote or making critical political decisions. Not special interests, not populist issues (smoking bans, government healthcare, etc) but LIBERTY FIRST.”

“While tea parties have no official national leadership, Eric Odom is certainly one of the Godfathers of the tea party movement,” said Rick Barber.

“I’m thrilled and honored to have earned Liberty First PAC’s endorsement,” added Barber.  “As a Marine, I swore to protect and defend the Constitution.  Liberty First PAC’s endorsement reflects our shared commitment to the principles of limited government.”

AL-2 Independent Candidate Rob John drops out of race, endorses Rick Barber for District’s Congressional seat
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

MONTGOMERY – On Tuesday, December 22nd, Independent Congressional candidate Rob John announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District seat and throwing his full support behind small business owner and Marine veteran Rick Barber.

“Rick Barber stands for my values,” explains John, an information technology expert from Millbrook.  “Rick believes in the Constitution, and he understands the proper role of the federal government in a free market society.  Rick will be a true representative, not a politician.”

“We need more principled small business owners like Rick Barber in Congress.  I’m throwing my full support behind him, and I’ll do everything I can to help his candidacy.  Being a former Marine, Rick understands honor, duty & country; and service before self.  His oath of office will be more than words.”

Rick Barber was expectedly pleased with the news.

“I’m delighted and honored to have Mr. John’s support,” said Barber.  “Rob will be an important ally in the coming months and a valued member of the team in 2010.”

Rick Barber will make a formal announcement at his home in Montgomery on Wednesday, January 6th.
