America's farmers are the best in the world, and Alabama's farmers are the best of the best.
As I see it, America's food supply is tied directly to national defense. If we can't feed our people, we can't defend our country.
I recognize farmers and ranchers as the original conservationists. Alabama's farmers and ranchers live off the land. They feed their families and livestock off the land. And their businesses demand a deep respect and care for their land and natural resources. I will fight for legislation that protects farmers and ranchers ability to use their land as they see fit. I will promote multiple use legislation, so that no bureaucrat in Washington can tell land owners in Alabama what to do with their private property, land and natural resources.
I also understand that farmers are subject to cyclical difficulties depending on weather, climate and growing conditions. As such, a single bad year could kill Alabama's farms, and, because I believe that our food supply is directly connected to national defense, I will fight in Washington for productive farmers' protections against market forces in poor growing seasons.
I will be a strong advocate in Washington for the 2nd district's farmers and ranchers.
