While America is certainly a melting pot, our laws require that immigrants sign the guestbook on their way in.
President Obama recently said that America is not defined by our borders. If he means that America is defined by our liberty, our belief in the individual pursuit of happiness, our Judeo-Christian values, and our fundamental distrust of government, then he’s right. But if he means that our borders don’t matter, he is very wrong. Without borders and an enforceable immigration policy, America cannot defend itself.
Our culture is important to us. Immigrants, throughout our history, have come to seek the American dream. In becoming American citizens, they must go through our naturalization process, learn our history, adopt our culture and learn to speak the English language.
