MONTGOMERY - The following is a message from Marine Corps veteran and former District 2 Congressional candidate Rick Barber:
District 2 Republicans,
It has been an honor listening to your concerns regarding the state of our nation and those of the 2nd Congressional district. Having never run for office before, I've been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that I've received over the past seven months. I'm thrilled to have been a voice for conservatism within the tea party movement and throughout our campaign. But throughout, I've had a deep and abiding respect for Montgomery City Councilwoman Martha Roby.
From the start of my campaign, our slogan has been "Taking your fight to Washington." I am certain that Martha will pick up that banner and take the conservative fight to Bobby Bright.
Martha Roby has been fighting against wasteful spending for years on the Montgomery City Council. Her record clearly shows that she believes that the best thing that the government can do is get out of the way of small business owners. She will fight to keep taxes low, our borders secure, our military strong and our federal government small.
Bobby Bright has provided no leadership against the excesses of the Democrats in Congress or the Obama administration. Despite his votes, he has missed opportunities to be a voice against the health care bill, Cap and Trade and the many "stimulus packages" that threaten our nation's financial security.
Bobby Bright needs to be replaced, and Martha Roby is the right woman for the job.
I have already spoken to Martha and explained to her that my endorsement will be a comprehensive one. I will join her on the campaign trail, help her raise money and rally district 2 voters to her side.
I firmly believe that 2010 is a pivotal year in our nation's history. It is a time for choosing for Alabama and for America. Do we hold on to our culture of individual freedom or do we cast hundreds of years of independence aside for the promised comforts of big government. I am resolutely for individual freedom, and I believe that Martha Roby will be Liberty's champion in district 2.
It has been a true priviledge to run over the past seven months, and it will be a priviledge to campaign for Martha Roby for Congress through November.
Semper Fi,
Rick Barber
